INNOVATION AND BEST PRACTICE

Goal
The goal of this practice is to appreciate the work done by the teaching staff and students of the department and motivate them to excel in their areas of expertise. This practice would ensure continuous improvement in their performance as per the quality policy to achieve the Vision and Mission of the department

The Context
Rewards are positive outcomes that are earned as a result of staff and students’ performance and achievement. These rewards are aligned with the department's objectives and goals. When any staff or student helps the department in the achievement of one of its objectives and goals, a reward often follows.

The Practice
The department has constituted the following rewards for its staff and students. The mode of reward is in terms of appreciation certificates and mementoes.

Best Teacher
Our department has qualified faculty members. We are conducting an Association Meeting every year in our department. We are conducting various competitions such as quizzes, paper presentations, Debates, As you like it and Ad Act. We encourage our students to participate in various competitions and expose their talents and skills. We appreciate the winners and reward those who score first and second place. Apart from this, our students are motivated to participate in various intercollegiate competitions organized by various colleges.

Motivating our students
Our department staff members individually distribute mementoes to our students who score first marks in a particular subject. The student who scores maximum marks in the subject is declared as Subject Topper.  Our department staff members have encouraged students to pursue internships during the vacations and acquire necessary problem-solving skills. Our department organizes various guest lecture programs. Our teaching has been digitized.

In last hour classes, monthly once students undertake group discussion, problems faced in the lecture room, quiz, class test, work exercise, under the supervision of a faculty member. These measures improve the knowledge in the subject and appropriate planning of any work for achieving the objective.

A unique counselling process is followed wherein each faculty is allocated 25 students as a Proctor with an objective to constantly follow student progress and accordingly suggest changes in case of any deviation. This counselling process is followed every Friday of the last week of every month. Parents' meetings are conducted to receive regular feedback about the progress of their ward and the overall development of the college.

To develop conceptual skills, to identify & formulate and solve problems innovatively, students undertake Case Studies. Case analysis develops decision-making skills under simulated conditions and highlights the fact that real situations are more complex than what the students learn in theory class.

Contextual features in designing and implementing the practice

The practice has been implemented in integration with the normal class routine of the students and the major parameters are:

  • Identification of students with an entrepreneurial mindset through extensive class interactions, workshops and mentoring.
  • Identification of students with leadership skills.
  • Spreading awareness about entrepreneurship.

Impact
The impact of the practice has been obvious. It created a unique triangulation between institute, community and resources. The students are experiencing elevated skill levels in communication, presentation, collaboration and articulation.
