The National Service Scheme is an Indian Government Sponsored Public Service Programme conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji’s centenary year in 1969. NSS is a voluntary association of young people in colleges aimed at developing students' personalities through community service. In our college, it was established in August 1979.

NSS volunteers are trained to cover several aspects like the adoption of villages for intensive development work, mass tree plantation, technology transfer programmes, technologies for rural development work, various training programmes for self-help groups and rural youth etc. The overall objective of the National Service is Educational. This objective is attained through service to the community. The Motto or Watchword of the NSS is "Not me but you".It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. Students undertake various need-based programmes in the adopted villages, college campuses and urban slums, during weekends or after college hours.
